Sometimes when interviewing a client for their Life Story book, we are struck by just how much has changed in the span of time that our clients have lived - mostly for the good.
In this case, our client, a motivated and educated woman, spoke of the struggles she faced looking for work in an era of blatant gender discrimination.
Here's how she described it:
'I went looking around for work, and that's when I found discrimination against women with children. I would start looking for jobs, and they would ask me, "Who's going to take care of your children? We don't think it's going to work out."
I thought, why are they saying this? I do have somebody there. I had one job that told me I couldn't come back because I had a child.'
Can you imagine?
